Langkawi Island

THE ACTIVITIES & PEOPLE

We first arrived at the Langkawi Terminal at 12:50p.m. on the 8th of Nov, we've collected the map of the island and rented a car throughout the 3 days trip.

It was raining during the first day we arrived at Langkawi Island so we decided to spend our time at Laman Padi after checking-in at the hotel, we stayed in a hotel named Fave Hotel.

After we checked-in, Rena drove all of us to the nearest attraction from our hotel which is the Laman Padi.

After visiting the museum, the rain stopped so we went to the beach for a look while we were on the way to Panorama Langkawi and everyone drooled when we saw the laksa stand by the beach and we had awesome laksa together with coconut drink.

We've visited a lot of places in Langkawi but fortunately, none of us paid any visit to the toilet.

We headed back to the hotel and chilled by the pool area after and had a sip of drink. We called it a day.

On the second day of the trip, all of us woke up pretty early and Watson was keen for the Go-Kart and Jetski so we headed to the Morac Go-Kart track and had some pretty fun time chasing against each other while go-karting.

Although it was tiring but we still made it for the Jetski session, we had lots of fun playing together as well. Group member Aiqi was screaming so loud that everyone was looking at her, said she wouldn't want to go for a Jetski session anymore.

It was a tiring morning, so we wanted to have a filling and satisfying meal for lunch and we met this beautiful lady who was willing to snap a photo together with us, she was really kind to us. There plenty of foreigners visiting Langkawi all the time, they often come all the way to Langkawi for sun-bathing.

The two awesome male members of the group wanted to go to the Underwaterworld Aquarium so badly to learn some new knowledge after lunch although the three other ladies were dying to to back to the hotel to have a nap. So after a long shower, yup girls always take very long to shower, we went to the aquarium and there were some beautiful fishes such as Arapaima.

It was already 6p.m. in the evening the moment we came out of the aquarium so we had dinner and visited a bar after dinner. We headed back to the hotel room after a drink, the girls turned out to be pretty drunk so Watson and Junzhi had to take care of them and sober them up.

Fruit vodka

On the 3rd day, we had laksa in the morning and last but not least we visited the Eagle Square, it was enormous. The eagle head itself weights up to 5 tons. We were all amazed by the massive size of the famous landmark of Langkawi Island.

Wished we could stay longer but time doesn't allow so we had to say goodbye to Langkawi Island, the group packed up at the hotel and took a flight back to Kuala Lumpur after returning the rented car, we had a really fun trip together in Langkawi Island, it was a nice trip and we all learned a lot of things together.

LANGKAWI EAGLE SQUARE

The name Langkawi is a combination of 2 different languages. The “Lang” comes from the Malay word helang, which means eagle. This is because the islands were famous for its number of eagles in the past. On the other hand, the word “Kawi” means marble in Sanskrit, because marble is found in excess there. So both words combined and eventually became Langkawi.

As mentioned above, Langkawi was a home for a large number of eagles is the past, but now due to excessive hunting by us humans, the numbers plummeted until the government had to protect it using laws by categorizing the eagles as endangered species in Malaysia.

So in the memorial of the numbers of eagle, the government created a symbol to represent Langkawi, the government decided to build a huge eagle sculpture near to the Kuah Jetty.

PANORAMA LANGKAWI

LOCATION

: The Cable Car system is the latest tourist attraction for Langkawi and is located at the Oriental Village, a theme shopping centre housed in 30’s individually designed buildings showcasing Malaysian and Oriental architecture.

The attraction located on the southwestern coast of the main island of Langkawi, is just a 30 minutes drive from Kuah town and 15 minutes drive from Langkawi International Airport.

Base Station:
The Base Station is conveniently located at the Oriental Village (at the foot hill of the Machincang mountain range). This integration between the Oriental Village and the Gunung Machincang forest reserve complements each other to higher mutual benefit.

From here, visitors will be taken up to the cool Machincang range via the Langkawi Cable Car on new and modern gondolas giving the visitors panoramic views of the surroundings forests, the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) waterfalls as well as the sea.

Visitors will glide above verdant rainforests and the ride itself will be exhilarating experience. They will also be able to catch glimpses of eagles, hornbills and assortment of birds and wild life along the route up.

Top Station
: A short walk up the stairs from the Top Station will take visitors to the two (2) viewing platforms at the top of Gunung Machincang, the climax of the trip. Visitors will be amazed at the unfolding dramatic views from the platforms, the many unique and exciting features of Machincang, are dominating rock tower peaks providing spectacular 360-degree panoramic views of the Langkawi islands, Kedah and Southern Thailand as well as dramatic views of the deep chasms, overhangs cliff walls, isolated pinnacles and some caves. Such nature monuments are seldom seen anywhere else in this combination except in Langkawi.

The over-ruling height of Gunung Machincang (708m), its commanding views over Langkawi, the western sea-coast, and the dramatic views over the funnel with its staggered rock blocks will make the visitors wonder in amazement and bring the visitors so close to nature that they can practically touch it!

A cafe at the Top Station offers delicious refreshments and unbeatable views with refreshing cool breezes, which allow visitors to enjoy Sunsets at 708m above sea-level is about 5 degrees (+/-) cooler than lowlands.

SkyBridge: Completed in 2004, this suspended bridge is built on top of the Machinchang mountain. Accessible from the Top Station, the bridge is suspended from a 82m high single pylon and hangs at about 100m above ground. It swings out over the landscape to give visitors a unique spatial experience, and to bring them into otherwise unattainable locations, above virgin jungle with spectacular views. Notably, in contrast to a straight bridge, where the end is always monotonously in sight, a curved bridge offers spectacularly changing perspective that reinvent themselves, as one proceeds along it.
Measuring at 125m in length, the structure ranks among the world’s longest curve suspension bridge and constructing it was not an easy feat as the solutions had to factor the following critical elements; structural balancing from a single point (top of the pylon), optimal weight management and load distribution, pre-fabrication of bridge and on site installation. The entire bridge, in all its elements had to be lifted to the top of the mountain by helicopter and was later assembled to its current position.

LANGKAWI ISLAND FOOD AND CULTURE

TOM YUM

Tom yum or tom yam is a spicy clear soup typical in Laos and Thailand. Tom yum is widely served in neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, and has been popularised around the world. In Langkawi, they serve tom yum made of seafood. Tom yum is usually made out of tom yum paste and herbs, some decided to add side ingredients such as mushrooms. We love the tom yum we had in Langkawi Island.

BABY KAILAN

Kai-lan is eaten widely in Chinese Cuisine, and especially in Cantonese Cuisine. Common preparations include kai-lan stir-fried with ginger and garlic, and boiled or steamed and served with oyster sauce. It is also common in Vietnamese Cuisine, Myanmar and Thai Cuisine.

Sliced beef served with mushroom cause together with fries and chillies is one of the most famous western cultural food they serve in Langkawi Island. The unique recipe of the mushroom sause lightens up the taste of the whole platter.

CANTONESE & THAI BEEF

Besides, the Cantonese and Thai beef were splendid as well as the other. Food in Langkawi Island comes in a lot of flavors an each flavor will satisfy different different individual. As for Watson from our group, he just loves all sorts of steak.

DEEP FRIED SQUID

Deep fried squid is one of the most amazing food we've had in Langkawi, they magnificent way of deep-frying the squids literally just brought out the taste of Langkawi. They serve it with the Thai chili sauce and you can feel it going down your throat smooth warm and nice.
